Garrison is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Cooper is on a 11-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Garrison Bulldogs will take on the Cooper Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Garrison had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They took down Beckville 42-28 on Thursday.
Garrison's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Javien Black led the charge by rushing for 139 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, while also picking up 75 receiving yards. Black's longest reception was for an incredible 75 yards. Another player making a difference was Omarion Rasberry, who rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries.
Meanwhile, Cooper put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Shelbyville 69-28 at home. Given Cooper's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 229th, while Shelbyville is ranked 638th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Canon Ingram continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 153 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry, and also throwing for 93 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Adryean Mapps was another key contributor, gaining 154 total yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 11-1.
