PALISADE, Colo. -
Delta (Colo.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 19 points, drop to five before the final whistle blew on a 26-21 victory over
Palisade (Colo.).
The Panthers were up 20-7 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Zach Decker in the first quarter.
Delta expanded its lead to 19 points entering the fourth quarter. DHS scored once in the quarter on a
Mitch Whiteside touchdown run.
The final score was a stunner, as the Panthers was ranked No. 94 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Colorado, far below the Bulldogs' spot at No. 43.
Luke McLean played well for Palisade. The senior threw two touchdowns. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.
Whiteside was the top performer for Delta. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which PHS took, 49-14.
The loss comes after Palisade defeated Steamboat Springs 52-7 last week. With the win DHS extended its winning streak to three games.
Palisade (6-2) goes up against Eagle Valley in a 3A Western Slope game matchup next week, while Delta (6-2) locks horns with Rifle also in a 3A Western Slope game.
