Basketball Recap: Pusch Ridge Christian Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was fun while it lasted, but Pusch Ridge Christian Academy's undefeated season came to an end after ten games on Friday. They fell to the Douglas Bulldogs 54-48. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Lions came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Bulldogs are ranked 53rd).

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hannah Johnson, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 18 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicole NJoroge, who posted 15 points and three steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy fell to 10-1. As for Douglas, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pusch Ridge Christian Academy will challenge Snowflake at 5:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Douglas, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Thatcher at 5:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Douglas is facing Thatcher at the right time seeing as Thatcher is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
