After a string of 17 wins, the Lyon County Lyons's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Newport by a score of 50-48. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Lyon County has scored all season.
Newport was led to victory by Tay Kinney and Deshaun Jackson jr. Kinney scored 14 points along with five rebounds, while Jackson jr scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of James Turner, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.
Lyon County's loss dropped their record down to 20-2. As for Newport, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season.
Lyon County will be playing at home against Henderson County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Henderson County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 629 points over their last ten games. Newport's road trip will continue as they head out to face Evangel Christian at 2:00 p.m. on January 28th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kentucky (Evangel Christian is ranked tenth, while Newport is ranked sixth).
