The Omaha Central Eagles will face off against the Gross Catholic Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Omaha Central took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They skirted past Grand Island 6-5. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Luke Neujahr made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Neujahr was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
Neujahr wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Oscar Yuhas, who went 1-for-3 with one run. That hit was Yuhas' first of the season.
Meanwhile, Gross Catholic strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Omaha South as they made off with an 11-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Owen Rempe looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Robbie Brennan, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2025. Mikey Bejar was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Gross Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Gross Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Omaha Central, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Omaha Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gross Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Omaha Central might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Gross Catholic in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
