The Campo Verde Coyotes will face off against the Higley Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Campo Verde's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Higley has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
Campo Verde's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Notre Dame Prep 1-0. The Coyotes haven't had any issues with the Saints recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
The result came thanks to Josh Heilman's shutout, as he gave up just five hits.
At the plate, Campo Verde's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ezekiel Zion, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Campo Verde hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Higley came into Thursday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Desert Ridge by a score of 5-1 on Thursday.
Jet Gonzalez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has become a key player for Higley: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 6-7 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Gio Liburdi and Jordan Heraldez did most of the damage at the plate: Liburdi scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Heraldez scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Liburdi has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Jantz, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Higley's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Campo Verde, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
Everything went Campo Verde's way against Higley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Campo Verde made off with a 9-3 win. Do the Coyotes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
