The Hubbard Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Poland Seminary Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Hubbard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Hubbard took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Sharon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Hubbard skirted past Sharon 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 29, 2024.
Kaylee Schultz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hubbard got a big performance out of Layla Songer, who scored a run while going 1-for-1. Songer also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lauren Komorek, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Poland Seminary made easy work of Brooke on Saturday and carried off a 12-1 victory.
Madison Medvec made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Medvec was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elliana Thompson, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Leanna Boccieri was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Poland Seminary always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brooke only posted an OBP of .211.
Hubbard's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Poland Seminary, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
