Springfield is 1-9 against McDonald since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Tigers will host the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Springfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Springfield turned things around against Lowellville on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rockets an 18-0 shutout. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Rockets on their field since April 9, 2021.
Kensley Schrode made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Brooklyn Chachko was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Giuliana Battaglini was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.
Springfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They are 9-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, McDonald fell victim to Poland Seminary and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 1-0.
Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for McDonald, their loss dropped their record down to 16-3.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Springfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like McDonald struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
