The Leigh Longhorns pushed their score all the way to 67 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 78-67 to Santa Teresa. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (60), Leigh still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Leigh had strong showings from Marko Miocinovic, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Caleb Asante, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miocinovic has scored all season. Cooper Smith was another key contributor, scoring two points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Leigh were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
This is the second loss in a row for Leigh and nudges their season record down to 9-7. As for Santa Teresa, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leigh won't have much time to rest: their next game is against More at 1:00 p.m. on January 27th. More is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games. As for Santa Teresa, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Independence at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th. Independence has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 19.
