Nederland has been on the road for two straight, but on Monday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Vanguard Classical East Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Wednesday, Nederland was beaten by the 84-24. Nederland was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-14.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Gavin Dillon, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rick Fortunato, who scored five points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Nederland struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Vanguard Classical East's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 59-24 defeat at the hands of Ascent Classical Academy. Vanguard Classical East was down 43-18 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Nederland's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Vanguard Classical East, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Nederland strolled past the Hawks in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 40-24. Does Nederland have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
