After three games on the road, Sutherland is heading back home. They will take on the Wauneta-Palisade Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Wauneta-Palisade took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Sutherland, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, Sutherland didn't have too much trouble with the Eagles on the road as they won 42-28. Sutherland pushed the score to 38-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.
Sutherland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mahala Vasquez, who scored 13 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vasquez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Glory Naughtin, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wauneta-Palisade's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 51-50 to Medicine Valley. Wauneta-Palisade has struggled against the Raiders recently, as their game on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Sutherland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 4-12 record this season. As for Wauneta-Palisade, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-10.
Sutherland suffered a grim 65-39 defeat to the Broncos when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Sutherland was down 39-14.
