8A District 2 recap October 8, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Tyler Prom and Nick WESTBROOK connected against Spruce Creek. The connection was good for 58 yards, the longest such play in 8A District 2 this season.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Lake Mary beat Lake Brantley 37-28. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Lake Mary's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Daniel BROWN threw for 147 and 3 touchdowns and WESTBROOK had 97 yards receiving. On the ground Charles LAMAR chipped in 108 yards. Kenneth WILLIAMS helped Lake Mary's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 21 yards.
He was 9-16 with 1 interception.
WESTBROOK was the best receiver in the league this week as Scott Perry's team beat the Patriots. WESTBROOK tallied 6 receptions for 97 yards. WILLIAMS helped Lake Mary's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 21 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Hunter Nordman and Stevionte Bruten, DeLand has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Nordman is tops in the league in passing with 526 yards, while Bruten has rushed for 592 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is the Rams' WESTBROOK, with 349 yards on 23 catches.
An important game coming up in 8A District 2 this week will be when Lake Brantley takes on the Hawks. George Clayton's team is currently in second, while Spruce Creek is in third.
The Bulldogs scaled the state rankings by moving to 178 from 230 this week, the biggest jump in the league. DeLand climbed the ranks as a result of defeating University 42-7.
