The LaFayette Bulldogs entered their tilt with the Lanett Panthers with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. LaFayette came out on top against Lanett by a score of 59-49 on Friday. Given LaFayette's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while Lanett is ranked 303rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
LaFayette's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Branaviyun Story led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Story has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Deaundra Vines was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight assists.
LaFayette's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points per game. As for Lanett, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-12.
LaFayette will head out on the road to take on Horseshoe Bend at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Lanett won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Callaway at 5:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Callaway focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
