Jac-Cen-Del extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 3-9. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the South Ripley Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Eagles have suffered since May 9, 2025.
Kaitlynn Shadday was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Shadday was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Taylor Swinney made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Josie Allen also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
As for South Ripley, their victory bumped their record up to 5-10. The win continues a trend for them in their matchups with Jac-Cen-Del: they've now won six in a row.
On South Ripley's side, Lexi Bowling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. Bowling has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Payten Linville was excellent, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Kelly Lohrum was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Looking ahead, Jac-Cen-Del will venture away from home to face off against South Decatur at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Cougars have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for South Ripley, they will face off against Scottsburg at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors and Warriorettes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.71 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
