The Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Montpelier 46-14 at home. The result was nothing new for Hopewell-Loudon, who have now won seven contests by 25 points or more so far this season.
Evan Kreais threw for 126 yards and a touchdown. Blake Berrier was his top target, picking up 50 receiving yards. On the ground, Kellen Frankart rushed for 38 yards and a touchdown.
Brayden Brink and Grant Girrell certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Brink picked up 142 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Girrell threw for 66 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Brink was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 66 yards.
Hopewell-Loudon's win was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 11-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 10-2 Carey and 8-2 Calvert (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 55.8% over those games). As for Montpelier, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Hopewell-Loudon will be playing at home against Pandora-Gilboa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Pandora-Gilboa's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three contests. Montpelier does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
