IV Section I recap Oct. 9, 2012
Blue Ridge extended the longest winning streak in IV Section I this week by beating Alchesay, 66-0. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Yellow Jackets.
Chinle was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 11th to eighth in the league. The Wildcats vanquished Many Farms 52-0 earlier in the week.
Snowflake's dynamic duo of Chase Walden and Rick Shumway proved tough for Page to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Walden threw for 211 yards and four touchdowns and Shumway had 96 yards receiving. Doug Brimhall helped Snowflake's passing attack out by catching one ball for 34 yards.
Keanu Mitchell made the biggest impact on defense this week as Monument Valley beat Red Mesa. The 5-foot-10 junior grabbed two interceptions.
Cecil Hubbell was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 120 yards as Ganado defeated the Sand Devils. Teammate Micheas Pineda added to the ground attack by rushing for 94 yards.
The Mustangs' Redmond Delmar and Tasi Malala have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading IV Section I in both passing and receiving yards. Delmar has thrown for 1506 yards this season, while Malala, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 29 catches for 565 yards. Blue Ridge's Nolan Cook leads the league in rushing yards with 947.
Paul Moro's team's Cook is a mere 53 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Monument Valley takes on the Hornets. As it stands, Bryan Begay's team is in second, while Ganado is in sixth.
The Yellow Jackets took down the Falcons 66-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Tyler Button ran for 101 yards in the win.
