The Munford Cougars will challenge the University School of Jackson Bruins at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
University School of Jackson will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Munford extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Cougars never let Millington Central get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Cougars this season.
Houston Yount was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Yount was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).

Munford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask University School of Jackson). Everything went their way against Fayette Academy on Tuesday as they made off with a 21-2 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bruins considering their two-run performance the game before.
Braydin Jones made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because University School of Jackson is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Jones was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and six RBI.
In other batting news, University School of Jackson got a massive performance out of Max Kilburn, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Harrison McClain, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
University School of Jackson's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Munford, their win bumped their record up to 12-6.
Munford's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for University School of Jackson, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Munford continue to outrun the ball?
Munford beat University School of Jackson 6-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Bruins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
