The Lafayette Lions's 27-6 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. Their tough 74-49 loss to Duncanville on Thursday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Lafayette can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 79th in Louisiana, while Duncanville is ranked second in Texas).
Duncanville was led to victory by Jasmine Gipson and Kaylinn Kemp. Gipson scored 15 points, while Kemp scored 20 points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Gipson scored 15 or more points. Mariah Clayton was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
This is the second loss in a row for Lafayette and nudges their season record down to 4-7. As for Duncanville, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-3.
Lafayette will square off against Kenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kenwood is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road. Duncanville won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Central at 7:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023.
