The Matoaca Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell 51-38 to Midlothian. Matoaca lost against Midlothian in their previous head to head back in February of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 56-50 score last time.
Matoaca lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sydney Richardson, who scored 16 points. The contest was Richardson's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kendra Carter, who scored six points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Matoaca's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Midlothian, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Matoaca will finish 2023 at home by hosting Hanover at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Virginia (Hanover is ranked 78th, while Matoaca is ranked 101st). Midlothian will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Monacan at 7:15 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
