The Maple Mountain Eagles will take on the Box Elder Bees at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Maple Mountain is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Taylorsville by a score of 8-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Gracie Jensen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, McClain Carter was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Brinley Cherrington, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Box Elder won against Cyprus on Thursday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Bees didn't even let the Pirates on the board, marking the Bees' second-straight 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Bees, who have now won 17 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Kennadie Blackmer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Box Elder got a massive performance out of Izibel Mason, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those four hits gave Mason a new career-high. Quincey LIsh also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Box Elder always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Maple Mountain's record now sits at 21-8. As for Box Elder, their record is now 25-3.
Maple Mountain couldn't quite get it done against Box Elder in their previous meeting back in May of 2018 as they fell 9-6. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
