The Boone Braves will head out on the road to face off against the University Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Boone focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
Last Friday, Boone lost to Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy on the road by a decisive 63-48 margin. While losing is never fun, Boone can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 451st, while Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy is ranked 23rd).
Cheo James put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 15 points. He scored a full 31.3% of Boone's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joan Orta, who scored 8 points.
Meanwhile, even though Titusville scored an imposing 61 points on Tuesday, University still came out on top. University took their matchup against Titusville 71-61. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, as University did.
University's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hudson Maurer, who scored 21 points. The match was Maurer's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Noah Nazario, who scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds.
Their wins bumped Boone to 1-4 and Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy to 5-0.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Boone have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 18.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've been even better at 29.8 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
Boone didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against University when the teams last played back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 49-44 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Boone since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
