Sparkman and Hazel Green are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Senators will venture away from home to square off against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sparkman is coming into the match hot, having won their last eight games.
Sparkman had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Grissom on Tuesday. The Senators put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 13-3 win. The Senators not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st.
Eden Parker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Parker was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 contests.
In other batting news, Sparkman got a massive performance out of Laila Watkins, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Shariah Hespeth was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-1.
Sparkman hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Hazel Green fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Buckhorn on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bucks by a score of 7-6. The Trojans' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Sparkman pushed their record up to 31-9-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Hazel Green, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 19-11.
Sparkman was able to grind out a solid victory over Hazel Green in their previous matchup back in February, winning 13-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Senators since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
