The Salem Generals will face off against the Corinth Riverhawks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Salem has seven straight victories, Corinth has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Salem barely beat Whitehall the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Generals were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Railroaders on Monday. Considering the Generals have won five contests by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Stephen Yakubec, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Baylor, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Salem hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Corinth lost 13-4 to Warrensburg on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Riverhawks have lost by exactly nine runs.
Dylan Halliday was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Salem pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Corinth, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
Corinth's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Salem hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. It's a different story for Corinth, though, as they've only averaged .230. Will they be able to contain Salem's hitters?
Salem took their win against Corinth in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-0 score. Do the Generals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Riverhawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
