The Rocky Hill Terriers will take on the Southington Blue Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Rocky Hill comes in on three and Southington on five.
While Rocky Hill didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 6-1 win over Conard on Wednesday. The six-run effort marked the Terriers' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Rocky Hill got a great performance from Ingris Lin as she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Lianna Tejada and Ally Killoran did most of the damage at the plate: Tejada went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Killoran went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Juliana Incarvito, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Rocky Hill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Southington came out on top against Berlin on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Blue Knights skirted past the Redcoats 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Blue Knights have posted since June 1, 2024.
Southington got a big performance out of Ashlyn Kenefick, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Kenefick has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Olivia Gombotz also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Rocky Hill pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Southington, their record now sits at 6-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rocky Hill has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Southington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Rocky Hill suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Southington when the teams last played back in May of 2017. Can the Terriers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
