Two dominant guards in Walker Carroll and Landen Carter are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Cochranton Cardinals will head out on the road to take on the Rocky Grove Orioles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
After only 17 points in their last match, Cochranton made sure to put some points up on the board against the Tigers on Tuesday. Cochranton claimed a resounding 58-31 win over the Tigers at home. That looming 58-31 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Cochranton yet this season.
Meanwhile, Rocky Grove put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They really took it to Commodore Perry for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-32 win at home. Rocky Grove pushed the score to 54-24 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers cut but never quite recovered from.
Rocky Grove found their leader in underclassman Carter, who scored 15 points along with five assists and five steals. Carter has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Schiffer Anderson, who scored seven points along with seven assists and three steals.
Cochranton's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Rocky Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
Cochranton couldn't quite finish off the Orioles in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 and fell 51-48. Can Cochranton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
