The Tri-Township Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the Kouts Mustangs & Fillies at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Tri-Township has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tri-Township came up short against Michigan City on Thursday, falling 15-4. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Wolves recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Dillon Stewart made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and one run. Hector Osornio was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Kouts made easy work of Westville on Monday and carried off a 13-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs & Fillies, who have now won seven matches by nine runs or more so far this season.
Landon Garrett made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Ben Finney was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Eli Harper, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Kouts always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Kouts pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Tri-Township, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tri-Township has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Kouts struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Tri-Township couldn't quite get it done against Kouts in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
