Western Harnett has gone a perfect 6-0 against Westover recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Having struggled with seven losses in a row dating back to last season, Western Harnett turned things around against Pine Forest on Friday. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 10-3 win. The Eagles not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 7, 2024.
Morgan McAuley was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Summer Baker was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Olivia Moomaw also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Westover was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Harnett Central, falling 19-0.
Westover's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Western Harnett, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Western Harnett took their win against Westover when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Western Harnett since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
