Caleb Stocker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Beckett Suh, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Ranek, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: University lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Providence put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Saturday. They never let Switzerland County get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. Considering the Pioneers have won 12 matchups by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Gavin Jackson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, Lucas Mauk was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Cole Huett was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
University's victory bumped their record up to 20-11. As for Providence, their win bumped their record up to 16-6.
University suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Providence in their previous matchup back in June of 2021. Can the Trailblazers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
