Shadyside extended their winning streak to six on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 11-7 in the process. They came out on top against the Monroe Central Seminoles by a score of 7-2. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 9-8 loss the last time these two teams met.
Ariana Saxton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kaylie Warnock was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Reese Burkhart also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
Shadyside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in three consecutive matches.
As for Monroe Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Monroe Central's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Karlie Haslam gave up three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Jadyn Miller and Allie McFredrick stepped up to the plate in a big way. Miller went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while McFredrick went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Brylee McFredrick, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Shadyside beat Monroe Central by a score of 7-2 later that day.
