After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kenston Forest, Brunswick Academy was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They never let the Tidewater Academy Warriors get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by eight runs or more this season.
Avery Griffin made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Griffin was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lexi Vaughan Howerton was incredible, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Lynn Corum, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Brunswick Academy has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Tidewater Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.
Brunswick Academy and Tidewater Academy will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Vikings see the field they'll take on Kenston Forest at 4:30 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Tidewater Academy, their break will end when they face Fuqua at 3:00 p.m. on the 21st.
