Ahoskie Christian found their leader in freshman Jaelen Rascoe, who posted 21 points in addition to six boards and six steals. Rascoe's evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Leary, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 13 points.
Ahoskie Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Gramercy Christian fought the good fight in their overtime game against Bethel Christian Academy on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Trojans 54-49. The Warriors just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
Ahoskie Christian will have to contain Malachi Tribble as he made an impact in Gramercy Christian's last game. He dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Tribble a new career-high in steals (five). Diego De Hoyos was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 11 points and three steals.
Gramercy Christian's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Ahoskie Christian, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Ahoskie Christian has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Gramercy Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
