Dowling (West Des Moines, Iowa) saw its 14-point lead dwindle to five, but still managed to hang on and upset
Waukee (Iowa) 14-9 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Ryan Boyle to
Nick Haag in the first quarter, the Maroons led 14-6 at the half.
The loss snapped Waukee's 10-game winning streak.
Dowling went into the matchup giving up only 11.9 points per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, DHS came away with a 38-0 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Waukee, who notched a 44-7 victory over Ankeny Centennial in its previous outing.
