The New Braunfels Unicorns will take on the Alamo Heights Mules at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alamo Heights took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on New Braunfels, who comes in off a win.
On Saturday, New Braunfels beat Canyon 42-35. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Unicorns.
It was another big night for Alyana Mcgarity, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Ryler Wilson was another key player, putting up eight points and seven boards.
New Braunfels smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Alamo Heights might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Pieper an easy 56-32 win. While losing is never fun, the Mules can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 492nd, while the Warriors are ranked 38th).
New Braunfels will have to contain Berkley Hart as she made an impact in Alamo Heights' last game. She dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 boards. That was a full 71.9% of Alamo Heights' points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.
Alamo Heights' loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-12. As for New Braunfels, they pushed their record up to 15-11 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: New Braunfels has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Alamo Heights struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.9 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything went New Braunfels' way against Alamo Heights in their previous meeting back in December of 2017, as New Braunfels made off with a 46-24 win. Will New Braunfels repeat their success, or does Alamo Heights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
