Avon dropped down to 7-12 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Westlake Demons by a score of 11-10. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Demons from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Avon got a good showing from Jonathan Carter, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Carter has allowed over his last two matchups.
On the hitting side, Mateus Porter stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Sykora, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
As for Westlake, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.
On Westlake's side, Ethan Thompson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Thompson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Sean Brouillard was a standout: he went 1-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Westlake is 10-2 when Brouillard posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cole Artman, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Avon will look to defend their home field on Monday against Elyria at 4:45 p.m. As for Westlake, they will head out on the road to face off against Rocky River at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
