The Avonworth Antelopes will head out on the road to square off against the Plum Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Avonworth will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
Avonworth's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over Shady Side Academy. The Antelopes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Carson Franc, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Shady Side Academy off the board. Franc has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Avonworth let Mason Metz and Case Latore run wild. Metz scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Latore went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Metz has posted since back in June of 2024. Cooper Scharding also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Plum). They blew past Penn Hills 15-0 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Michael Tedrick looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Jake Dombkowski was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Daniel Macioce, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Plum always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Avonworth pushed their record up to 11-1-1 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.5 runs this season. As for Plum, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.
