The Southeast Halifax Trojans's six-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Friday. Everything went their way against KIPP P as Southeast Halifax made off with a 60-34 win. Southeast Halifax's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Southeast Halifax's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Janiyla Pierce, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Pierce has scored at least 25% of Southeast Halifax's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kemorriya Evans, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, KIPP P saw an underclassman step up: Kaiyah Cherry dropped a double-double on 28 points and 25 rebounds. Cherry is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
Even though they lost, KIPP P were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southeast Halifax only pulled down 28 offensive rebounds.
Southeast Halifax's win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-4. As for KIPP P, they bumped their record down to 0-3 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Southeast Halifax will challenge Weldon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Weldon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday. As for KIPP P, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northampton County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
