Greenbrier is 9-1 against Vilonia since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Panthers will square off against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Greenbrier barely beat Jacksonville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Titans an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Greenbrier got a big performance out of Addi Gilbow, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one double. Ellison Miller also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Greenbrier always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Vilonia made easy work of Mount St. Mary Academy on Tuesday and carried off a 15-0 victory. Considering the Eagles have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Lynnlee Rowan looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Dita Porterfield was a standout: she scored a run while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Lila Toll was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Vilonia pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.2 runs over those games. As for Greenbrier, their record is now 6-8.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Greenbrier has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .496. However, it's not like Vilonia struggles in that department as they've averaged .521. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Greenbrier's way against Vilonia in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Greenbrier made off with an 18-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
