Softball Game Preview: Franklin Towne Warriors vs. Central Lancers

Franklin Towne and Central are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. Franklin Towne will venture away from home to face off against Central at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

If Franklin Towne beats Central with 18 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Franklin Towne beat Philadelphia Performing Arts on Wednesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 18-3. The Warriors' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Ann Bernard and Ahnyla Rivera did most of the damage at the plate: Bernard scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Rivera scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Rivera a new career-high. Celena Fred was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Franklin Towne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .758. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Central got themselves on the board against Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush on Wednesday, but Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the KNIGHTS. The Lancers haven't had any issues with the KNIGHTS recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Central's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Franklin Towne, their record now sits at 4-0.
