Genoa Central is on a three-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Subiaco Academy is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Genoa Central Dragons will take on the Subiaco Academy Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Genoa Central faced Mountain Pine in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Genoa Central snuck past Mountain Pine with a 44-38 win.
Meanwhile, Subiaco Academy really took it to Fountain Lake for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-12 victory at home. The result was nothing new for Subiaco Academy, who have now won five matchups by 24 points or more so far this season.
Subiaco Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brody Koch, who rushed for 182 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. Koch was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards. Anthony Gehrig was another key contributor, rushing for 134 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries.
Their wins bumped Genoa Central to 4-2 and Subiaco Academy to 7-1.
Genoa Central might still be hurting after the 46-22 loss they got from Subiaco Academy when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Genoa Central, Giovanni Vargas (who rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also picked up 114 receiving yards and a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
