The Grant Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They fell just short of Rapides by a score of 52-49. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Grant in their matchups with Rapides: they've now lost four in a row.
Christopher Newton was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with eight rebounds for Rapides. Another player making a difference was Zayveian Johnson, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Grant dropped their record down to 5-17 with that loss, which was their 15th straight on the road. As for Rapides, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.
Grant will be playing in front of their home fans against Peabody at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Peabody presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Grant in Louisiana (Peabody is ranked third, while Grant is ranked 308th). Rapides won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Grace Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
