Roy and Woods Cross are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Roy Royals will be playing at home against the Woods Cross Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Roy came into Wednesday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 65-53 victory over Clearfield on Wednesday.
Roy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bronson Belnap out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten assists. Another player making a difference was Dahlen Pontius, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Woods Cross was able to grind out a solid victory over Viewmont on Wednesday, taking the game 54-42. That looming 54-42 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Woods Cross yet this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Woods Cross to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hunter Jackson, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Jackson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Smith-mecham, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
The win got Roy back to even at 10-10. As for Woods Cross, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 5-15 record this season.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Roy have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 40.8% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Woods Cross struggles in that department as they've made 41.3% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Roy didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Woods Cross in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 55-51 win. Will Roy repeat their success, or does Woods Cross have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
