The Big Valley Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell to Bethel Christian 42-38. Big Valley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Bethel Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Josue Barba and Juan Flores certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Barba scored 17 points along with eight rebounds, while Flores scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Bethel Christian was led to victory by Rad Schenkenberger and Braden Johnson. Schenkenberger dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds, while Johnson scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least a third of Bethel Christian's points. Abraham Mast was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Big Valley's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Bethel Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 3-8 record this season.
Big Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Butte Valley at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bethel Christian, they will head out on the road to take on Hayfork at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hayfork is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
