The Bishop Union Broncos and the Wasco Tigers squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Bishop Union Broncos had to settle for second. They and the Tigers were almost perfectly matched up, but they suffered an agonizing 42-41 defeat. Bishop Union's defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.
Bishop Union's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austin Powell, who rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns. Powell hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Boden St. marie, who threw for 275 yards and a touchdown on only 19 passes.
Wasco found their leader in underclassman Noah Lopez, who rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per carry. Lopez was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 64 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Dominguez, who rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry.
Bishop Union's defeat dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Wasco, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season.
Bishop Union does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Wasco will head out on the road to face off against Cerritos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cerritos is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
