After flying high against the Swallows Charter Academy Spartans on Tuesday, the Fowler Grizzlies came back down to earth. Fowler was dealt a 82-31 loss at the hands of Colorado Springs Christian on Saturday. Fowler has not had much luck with Colorado Springs Christian recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Fowler's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaslyn Bates, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. The contest was Bates' third in a row with at least ten points. Randi Maestas was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Fowler struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Colorado Springs Christian pulled down 19 offensive rebounds.
Colorado Springs Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Grace Minihane out in front who scored 32 points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Rose Ross, who scored 20 points along with seven assists and seven steals.
Fowler's defeat dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Colorado Springs Christian, the victory was the eighth in a row (dating back to last season) for them, bringing their record for this year to 2-0.
Fowler will be playing at home against Las Animas at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Las Animas is ranked 67th, while Fowler is ranked 53rd). As for Colorado Springs Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Ellicott at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ellicott comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
