The Mitchell Mustangs pushed their score all the way to 57 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Seven Rivers Christian at home by a decisive 71-57 margin. Mitchell has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Carys Thuma and Kaylana Little certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Thuma scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Little scored eight points along with six assists and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thuma has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Moriah Hillmon, who scored six points along with six steals and two blocks.
Even though they lost, Mitchell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seven Rivers Christian only pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Seven Rivers Christian found their leader in underclassman Jurisah Bailey, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 13 rebounds. Bailey is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Annalise De beer was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds.
Mitchell has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. As for Seven Rivers Christian, their win was their 12th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3.
Mitchell won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hernando at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th. As for Seven Rivers Christian, they will take on Patel at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Hopefully Patel focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Wednesday.
