The Lugoff-Elgin Demons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their 12th straight loss. They were outmatched by Trinity Collegiate at home and fell 84-51. While losing is never fun, Lugoff-Elgin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while Trinity Collegiate is ranked 23rd).
Despite the loss, Lugoff-Elgin saw an underclassman step up: Jillian Rush scored 26 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rush has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alicia Jefferson, who scored six points.
Lugoff-Elgin's loss was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-14. As for Trinity Collegiate, their victory bumped their record up to 13-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lugoff-Elgin won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Westwood at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Westwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Saturday. Trinity Collegiate won't have much time to rest: their next match is against First Baptist School at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. First Baptist School is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
