Gillespie is a perfect 3-0 against Greenfield/Northwestern since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Miners will head out to face off against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Gillespie is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
Gillespie's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Carlinville with a sharp 6-0 win. Considering the Miners have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Sadie Sholtis's shutout, as she gave up just ten hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Paxton Reid was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Parish, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Greenfield/Northwestern might've scored the first runs on Friday, but it was Lincolnwood who claimed the real prize. The Tigers fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 9-8. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Lancers recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Jaylynn Pitchford was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off nine hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero).
On the hitting side, Annabeth Thornton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Karissa Ruyle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Gillespie's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Greenfield/Northwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.
Greenfield/Northwestern's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Gillespie has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Greenfield/Northwestern, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given Gillespie's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Gillespie took their victory against Greenfield/Northwestern in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Miners since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
