The McMinn Central Chargers will head out on the road to face off against the Giles County Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only McMinn Central walked away with it. They had just enough and edged Watertown out 35-32.
Meanwhile, Giles County had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.4 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Brainerd 34-0 at home. Giles County might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven matchups by 24 points or more this season.
Giles County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kamauri A turner, who picked up 96 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Giles County also got a significant boost from Zori Randolph, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 102 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Giles County's defense and their three sacks. In that department, Caleb Oates was the leader with two sacks.
McMinn Central has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 8-3 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Tellico Plains and 4-7 Watertown (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.4% over those games). As for Giles County, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
