Softball Recap: Desales Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

DeSales had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. Everything went their way against the Sunnyside Christian Knights as they made off with a 25-8 win. Considering the Irish have won seven matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Addison Mason made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-6 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, DeSales let Theresa Holtzinger and Roslyn Block run wild. Holtzinger went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, six RBI, and four runs, while Block went 3-for-6 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. Those four hits gave Holtzinger a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Linley Donnelly, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.

DeSales always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .604. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

DeSales' victory bumped their record up to 10-1-1. As for Sunnyside Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-3.

Looking ahead, DeSales will head out on the road to face off against Colton at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sunnyside Christian, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Non Varsity Opponent at 3:30 p.m. on April 8.
