The Western Alamance Warriors will venture away from home to square off against the Eastern Alamance Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Western Alamance took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over Southern Alamance. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Bayleigh Burris was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Ryan Justice was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Eastern Alamance never let their opponents score on Friday. Everything went their way against Williams as they made off with a 16-0 win.
Carley Boggs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Eastern Alamance got a massive performance out of Delani Straughan, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two runs gave Straughan a new career-high. Brylea Warren also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Eastern Alamance was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .591. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Eastern Alamance is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Western Alamance, they pushed their record up to 11-9 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Western Alamance hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Eastern Alamance struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Western Alamance couldn't quite finish off Eastern Alamance when the teams last played on April 8th and fell 6-4. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
